redefined is the largest exhibition of modern and contemporary art from the Corcoran’s permanent collection since the founding of the museum. It provides an unprecedented opportunity to experience many of the museum’s most important works from the 1950s to the present. The exhibition unfolds throughout the spring and summer months. Phase one (downstairs): on view April 8. Phase two (upstairs): opens July 15.
Opening on July 15, 2006 and closing on October 1, 2006, Robert Weingarten’s photographs of artists’ palettes bridge the gap between realism and abstraction, presenting details of both saturated pigments and the visual landscapes of artists’ studios. These images allow a microcosmic view of the materials and methods of more than twenty contemporary painters, including Chuck Close, Jasper Johns, Ed Ruscha, Robert Ryman, Wayne Thiebaud, and Lisa Yuskavage.
A Members’ tour will be offered by Jonathan P.
