DC Harbor Patrol

Established in 1861, the MPDC Harbor Patrol is a critical, but largely unknown, part of the Metropolitan Police Department. The Harbor Patrol polices all of the rivers, inlets, and waterways that surround the nation's capital. The 20-member unit encounters the same types of incidents that occur on DC streets including disorderly conduct, loud music, domestic violence, high-speed chases, and robbery suspects.

Berlin's Nicolaus Schmidt "God Dancing/Spiders Flipping" Exhibit Opening at NYU's Deutsches Haus - Tuesday, 15 September 2009

In spring 2008, the Berlin artist Nicolaus Schmidt portrayed a typical part of Berlin nightlife culture with his Gayhane portraits. In his second art show at Deutsches Haus, "God Dancing/Spiders Flipping" the artist tells about a world-wide known youth and street culture phenomenon with his new N.Y.B.P. (New York Breakdancers Project) series - a long term cooperation with local New York City breakdancers. The artist prints his large sized photographs by himself on Hahnemühle* fine art paper.

10th Annual National Press Club Members Photo Show Runs Until 30 September 2009

At the invitation of photojournalist Nancy Shia who I've known since the fall of 2000 as a result of my then association with DC Indymedia I attended the Opening Reception for the 10th Annual National Press Club Photography Exhibit on Friday evening, 4 September 2009.

Shia's display featured four (4) images from the night of 12 October 2008 when as an Adams Morgan Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner and in the process of documenting night activities in Adam Morgan she, too, was arrested.

Located in the lobby of the NPC Library the exhibit will be on display until Wednesday, 30 September 2009 on the 13th floor of the National Press Club Building at 529 14th Street in NW Washington DC.

Here is the press release regarding the event.
