Nicolas Jammet, Jonathan Neman, and Nathaniel Ru, 23-year-old recent business-school graduates, first met in an entrepreneurship class at Georgetown University. Together they hatched a plan for an eco-friendly business and sought the expertise of Core Architecture + Design to redesign an iconic hamburger shack on M Street. The result of this collaboration is Sweetgreen ... a certified green restaurant offering healthy salads, wraps, and frozen-yogurt concoctions.
Shortly after an August 2007 opening at the Little Tavern location on M Street in Georgetown Nicohlas, Jonathan and Nathaniel were making plans for two other locations of Sweetgreen at Dupont Circle and Bethesda.
Sweetgreen / Dupont opened its doors for business on Wednesday, 1 April 2009 ... serving FREE LUNCH from 12 noon until 4pm ... in honor of Spoons Across America, a non profit that provides food and nutrition education.
The two-day grand opening event carried over into a Thursday Night, 2 April Grand Opening Party featuring LA's DJ Grant Shapiro.
Grand Prize winners of the 2008 Retail Design Award and developers of the soon to hit the streets SWEETFLOW MOBILE ice cream truck ... as lovers of music, the owners of Sweetgreen host frequent block parties.
As was the case when during my Saturday, 18 April 2009 photowalk that I captured Nicolas and Jonathan 'takin' the music to the streets'. Click the image above to view my Sweetgreen / Dupont album.
In many ways they remind me of twin brothers Mark and Eric Michaels who after graduating from Georgetown University launched Occasions Caterers.
Nicolas Jammet, Jonathan Neman and Nathaniel Ru are of a new breed of entrepeneurs.
They're GREEN and, mark my words, are THE FACES OF THE FUTURE and the rhythm of the times!
