"Viajero Art" by Adrian Roman

Since running into Greek photographer Stratis Vogiatzis in Dupont Circle on Sunday, 9 May 2010 who was in town for the 12 May 2010 opening of his "Inner World: The Mastiha Villages of Chios" exhibit at the Embassy of Greece ... I've been thinking about the "Viajero Art" installation by Brooklyn based artist Adrian Roman that I captured on the 6th floor of the March 2010 G40 Art Summit in Crystal City exhibition.

Hopefully, while in NYC during his current visit to America, Vogiatzis will get a chance to check out Roman's studio at the New York Artist Residency and Studios (NARS) in Brooklyn.

After dropping Richard off at the BWI Aiport on Friday morning, 7 May 2010, I took the MARC train to Baltimore for the 93rd Annual Flowermart at Mount Vernon Square. Upon my arrival, the first act that I'd capture at the William Donald Schaefer Stage was the Social Security Administration (SSA) Chorus performance of 70's disco songs.

While my 93rd Annual Flowermart 2010 / Baltimore MD docu-project is still under construction click the image to view the SSA Chorus video. And here is SSA Chorus photo album.

PEVA's Washington DC Transit Map Shower Curtain

When ever that I make plans to head over to the DC USA Columbia Heights Shopping Mall at 14th and Irving Streets in NW Washington DC ... as was the case yesterday afternoon to pick up a Griffin PowerBlock Wall Charger for my iPod ... I make sure to take along with me any recent 20% off coupons that I've received via postal mail from Bed Bath & Beyond.

I try and change my shower curtain at least once a year ... either at the start of spring or on my 5 October birthday.

I must say that I am quite pleased with my new PEVA WDC Transit Map Shower Curtain that was puchased yesterday from the Bed Bath & Beyond at DC USA Columbia Heights Shopping Mall.

My April 2010 SUN DANCING New Age Mix Celebrates Hubble Telescope 20th Anniversary

Since my introductions to Tangerine Dream, Mike Oldfield, Kraftwerk and Kitaro in early 1979 ... new age music has been one of my favorite genres.

When launching the Elvert Barnes Mixology podcast in January 2009 my intention was to create music mixes that featured some of the new age music from those early years. While that particular 'new age' project is still in contemplation I recently decided to explore new age music from a different perspective and as a result, with the April 2010 "Sun Dancing" mix will now launch the New Age Music Collection.

In preparation of this particular mix I spent several days searching and listening to new age music from the Lala site which, after signing on, provided full length listening to each song.

It was in the midst of the project that I learned of the 20th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope launch by NASA and, therefore, in celebration of this historiic cosmic event along with hopes of brining attention to the Hubble Site selected the Hubble Telescope's 20th Anniversary image as the "Sun Dancing" cd cover artwork.

Since it is my practice to use only my images in connection with my projects with this project being an exception here is the copyright notice from the Hubble Picture Gallery.

The title song, "Sun Dancing", is the work of Australian composer, producer and performer Tony O'Connor whose instrumental music is enjoyed by listeners all around the world.

29 April 2010 Friday's Photo of the Week

When passing through Dupont Circle / North, in recent weeks, at the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Q Street in NW WDC I've noticed that Vladimir and Dupont Flowers were no longer there.

Passing through Union Station yester afternoon and in the process of capturing the newly launched Outdoor Market on the West Carriage Porch near the First Street Metro escalators I was delighted to see Vladimir at the Good Morning Sunshine Nuts kiosk.

With the grand opening on 1 April 2010, the Outdoor Market offers the public an opportunity to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables, flowers, pre-packaged organic food, homemade desserts, exotic beads, and other market items at historic Union Station!

The Outdoor Market is open daily, rain or shine.

Two New "City Vista" Public Art Installations Dedication at Mt. Vernon Triangle

During Safeway's recent transition in SWDC I took three trips to the Safeway at the City Vista Complex at 5th and K Streets in NW WDC. It was during my first trip on Sunday, 27 March 2010 that I noticed for the first time two new public art installations at the City Vista Complex.

After during some research through Google I learned that the works of art were "Inspiration" by Ethan Kerber and "Lift Off" by David Black.

In a DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) press release dated 1 April 2010 I learned today that a dedication ceremony for the two new public art installations were held at Busboys & Poets at City Vista on Tuesday, 6 April 2010.

Wishing that I had known of the event ... I definately would have attended it. Public Art In Public Spaces have always been of interest to me.

Windows Into DC at DC Convention Center Runs Thru 30 May 2010

Since my first visit last October I've wanted to revisit the Windows Into DC exhibit at the DC Convention Center so as to capture all the artists' works.

I got that chance yester evening after first getting some shots of folks heading into Dorothy Height's celebration of life services at the Shiloh Baptist Church.

Having opened last September with a then scheduled closure for the end of March 2010, Anne Marchand's events page reports that the exhibit has been extended through 30 May 2010.
