First assembling at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial at Judiciary Square just off F Street between 4th and 6th Streets and directly across from the National Building Museum from 6:15 until 8:15 am a Pre-Race Rally was held just before the 8:32 am step-off.
The race would then proceed east on F to 3rd Street, NW, and south on 3rd to Pennsylvania Avenue which is where it veered left until First Street, NW. South on First Street pass the US Capitol through the National Mall until Independence Avenue in SW and then left until First Street, NE.
Proceeding north to East Capitol Street, east on 2nd Street, NE, and then west onto Independence Avenue, SW, runners passed the Library of Congress and the US Supreme Court along the way.
On a return trek along Independence Avenue the Cannon, Rayburn and Longworth House and Congressional Buildings were to their left and the US Capitol Grounds and US Botanic Gardens appeared at their right before a final stretch north along 3rd Street through the National Mall to E Street, NW.
Where a final rush or stride to the triumphant Finish Line brought them back to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial grounds and directly across from the future site of the National Law Enforcement Museum.
Though I did not stay for the entire After The Race Ceremeony here is the NLEOMF blog article "Truly ... A Race to Remember" which gives an excellent rundown of the event.
Here is where you can find the official results by searching for Race to Remember: National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial 5K - 19 October 2008. According to the official results here is my photo of the first two runners Andrew Duncan (#444) of Las Vegas NV and Antonio Eppolito (#343) of Albuquerque NM just seconds before they reached the finish line at 5:19 and 5:20, respectively.
Though still under construction here is my NLEOMF Race to Remember 5K - 19 October 2008 photo collection at Flickr.
