Road Soda 'Stirred Up' the Crowd at Farragut Square on Thursday evening, 16 July 2009
Not having been to Sounds in the Square since the 2007 Summer Concert Series I was looking forward to yesterday's visit.While I had not heard nor seen them before ... after witnessing the Thursday, 16 July 2009 installment of the Golden Triangle BID's Sounds in the Square Summer 2009 Concert Series at Farragut Square ... I now know why ROAD SODA, from Fairfax VA, won of the April 2009 On Tap Magazine's Battle of the Cover Bands competition.
As winners of the competition ROAD SODA is the Official 2009 Miller Lite House Band for the Washington Nationals and can be witnessed before each Friday night home game.

L'Enfant Café's 6th Annual Bastille Day Bash & French Maid Relay Race!
Having captured the Les Halles' Bastille Day Celebration at Pennsylvania Avenue and 12th Street in NW Washington DC for several years in the past and since the closure of the Washington DC location in November 2008 I wasn't too sure where there may would be a similar celebration, in WDC, of the 2009 Bastille Day.Searching Google I came across several references to a Bastille Day Celebration at L'Enfant Cafe. While not familar with L'Enfant Café + Bar, I knew exactly where 18th and Vernon Streets were since for several years I had visited two close friends (Bob & Joe) who once owned a townhouse on Vernon Street.
Having spent much of the 14 July afternoon exploring the Southwest Heritage Trial I wasn't really up for heading to a venue that I was too familar with. But since some of the references also mentioned an Adams Morgan Bastille Day Block Party I decided to check it out.
Having opened in 2003, L'Enfant Café's first Bastille Day Bash and French Maid Relay Race took place in 2004. With an increase in each year's attendence coupled with last November's closing of Les Halles / DC ... the 6th Annual Bastille Day 2009 Celebration at L'Enfant Cafe/Bar mushroomed into a Block Party.
And a block party, it was!
One of the three owners, James Ball, costumed as Louis XIV paraded around as host and Master of Ceremony, sometimes with two Marie Antoinette's (one on each arm), while DJ Dario had the crowd dancing in the street.
While I did not catch the details of the door prizes, proceeds from two raffles in addition to that from the $25 fee charged to each of the (25) French Maid race participate will be donated to Make A Wish Foundation.

17th Annual Arts on Foot Deadline to Apply is 17 July 2009
Following the announcement of the 2009 expanded, three-day, Art Market at The Washinton Examiner's ARTS ON FOOT festival sponsored by Wines of Argentina, online applications have poured in. There are now only 10 days left to apply, the deadline is July 17. There are only 50 spaces available for weekdays and 80 -100 spaces for the Saturday Festival. Metrorail records highest July 4th ridership day in history
In a Press Release dated Monday, 6 July 2009 WMATA reports the following:Hundreds of thousands of people helped Metro set the transit agency’s highest ridership for the Fourth of July holiday in the history of the 33-year-old rail system. Riders took 631,206 trips on July 4th, an increase of 32,308 trips than last July 4th.

Lake County (IN) Pipe & Drum Band served as hosts of 2009 NPW Emerald Society & Pipeband event
Now that some dust has settled and I've had a little time to regroup from last month's 2009 National Police Week event when posting a few images of this year's 15th Annual Emerald Society & Pipeband March and Ceremony ... I learn by way of the NLEOMF blog posting that ..
