The U-Liners Band perform at 40th Earth Day Celebration on the National Mall

During my 40th Anniversary Earth Day walk through the National Mall in Washington DC on Thursday, 22 April 2010 I came across an excellent "roots-rock / Americana" band, Joe Uehlein and The U-Liners performing at the Earth Network Climate Rally stage.

The 2010 DC Emancipation Day Commemoration Rally & March

Organized by Anise Jenkins of Stand Up! for Democracy / Free DC In Coalition and Ayo Handy-Kendi of African American Holiday Association (AAHA) and in collaboration with Friends of DC Emancipation as well as other sponsors the theme for the 2010 DC Emancipation Day Commemoration Rally & March was "To Honor the Ancestors & To Advocate for DC Statehood (Political Freedom).

Civil rights activist Dorothy Height dies at 98

For nearly half a century, Dorothy Irene Height has given leadership to the struggle for equality and human rights for all people. Her life exemplifies her passionate commitment for a just society and her vision of a better world.

As reported in the CNN Wire Staff article dated Tuesday, 20 April 2010 ... Height, at age 98, died this morning at 3:41 a.m at Howard University Hospital in NW Washington DC.
