Having captured the recent spring 2012 clean-up of the fields that surround the WMATA West Hyattsville Station when last Sunday that a friend and I first noctied what we thought to have been construction trailers I wondered if the long anticipated West Hyattsville Commons redevelopment project was about to begin.
And then on Tuesday morning that my friend and I passed through the field again we then realized that a carnival was being set-up. Unable to find any information on the internet regarding the May 2012 Reithoffer Carnival at the Hyattsville location when passing through the field again on Thursday morning that I inquired of details from two members of the set-up crew they informed me that the festival would be run from Thursday, 3 May through Sunday, 13 May.
Hours of operation from Monday through Friday will be from 5 until 10 pm (perhaps later depending on the crowd) and from 1 pm until 6 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
Wanting to bring attention to the event I returned later on yesterday afternoon to capture opening day of the May 2012 Reithoffer Carnival at the Hyattsville MD event.
My video clips of the event may be found on YouTube.
Located just behind and within walking disance from the WMATA West Hyattsville Station in what the locals refer to as Ginsfield the 10 day festival and can be found at the intersection Ager Road and Lancer Drive in Hyattsville MD.
For more information visit the Reithoffer Shows website at reithoffershows.com/.
UPDATE. While this article was written on 3 May, t is now Sunday morning, 5 May 2012 and in reading my daily news update from the Hyattsville Patch I lean that this event is actually in benefit of the Hyattsville Fraternal Order of Police (FOP).

UDC Community College 2nd Semi-Annual Workforce Development Graduates Recognition Celebration at THEARC in SE DC
Yesterday morning on Saturday, 25 February 2012 the University of District Columbia Community College held its second Semi-Annual Recognition Celebration at THEARC at 1901 Mississippi Avenue in SE Washington DC in honor of student graduates from its 2011 Summer and Fall Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning Program. The theme for the February 2012 graduation ceremony was "Finding New Ways to Work".
After opening with welcome remarks from Connie Spinner, Dean of WDLL and Dr. Jonathan Guevera, CEO of UDC-CC former students via a video presentation as well as in their own words shared how the WDLL program had changed and improved their lives.
In her own words, Michelle Watson closed with "Don't stop. I'm not stopping!". And while Bryce Gregory expressed that "... we are all students because we want to do better ..." Monique Williams closed with "I can achieve as long as I believe!".
In her Words of Encouragement, Melinda Gray expressed that her while fear had been her biggest obstacle she urged that "... if you begin and then stop, go back!".
In the Take A Bow, Give Yourself a Hand portion of the program, WDLL Dean Connie Spinner asked that each graduate stand and be recognized when she announced the course or program from which they had participated in during the 2011 fall and summer seasons. At which time, I proudly stood when she announced the Medical Office Administrative Assistant Program at Backus.
Final remarks were made by Brenda Richardson who as Deputy Chief of Staff to Councilmember Marion Barry reminded the audience that it had been through the efforts of Barry that the District of Columbia had first instituted a Workforce Development Program.
In a closing musical selection, Michelle Watson sang "In Return" before attendees were then invited to a reception in the lobby of THEARC where refreshments, fruit and dessert was donated by Walmart.
At which time Mayor Vincent Gray would join Dr. Gueverra and others on stage in private discussions regarding the UDC-CC WDLL program.

2012 / Dawn Of A New Age
While some may believe with the Mayan calendar ending on 21 December 2012 that today, 1 January 2012, marks the beginning of the end of the world I believe that today as well as this year's winter solstice is just the dawn of a new age and time.
And while many contemplate new year resolutions in tune with my practice for more than a decade my "mantra" vs resolutions for 2012 is "Dawn Of A New Age!"
