3rd Annual Metro DC's CAR FREE DAY - 22 September 2009

Car Free Day is an international event celebrated every September 22nd in which people are encouraged to get around without their car - highlighting transit, bicycling, walking and all alternative modes of transportation. By taking a fair number of cars off the roads people who live and work there are given a chance to consider how their neighborhood might look and work with a lot fewer cars.

Washington celebrated Car Free Day for the first time in 2007 with about 1,000 District residents committing to be car free for the day. Last year, Car Free Day expanded to the entire Washington Metropolitan Area, and 5,445 residents throughout the region pledged to be car free. This year we hope even more drivers throughout the region will leave their cars at home or go “car lite” by sharing a ride to work. By taking the Car Free Challenge, participants not only help to improve air quality, save money, and reduce their carbon footprint, but also get a chance to win great prizes at the event.

Metro DC's Car Free Day Street Celebratation will take place on Tuesday, 22 September 2009 from 11 am until 3 pm at 7th and F Streets in NW Washington DC.

DC Harbor Patrol

Established in 1861, the MPDC Harbor Patrol is a critical, but largely unknown, part of the Metropolitan Police Department. The Harbor Patrol polices all of the rivers, inlets, and waterways that surround the nation's capital. The 20-member unit encounters the same types of incidents that occur on DC streets including disorderly conduct, loud music, domestic violence, high-speed chases, and robbery suspects.

Shot during my Labor Day / Sunday, 6 September 2009 photo walk through Georgetown click the image to view my newly launched DC Harbor Patrol album which is also found in my MPDC 2009 album.

Berlin's Nicolaus Schmidt "God Dancing/Spiders Flipping" Exhibit Opening at NYU's Deutsches Haus - Tuesday, 15 September 2009

In spring 2008, the Berlin artist Nicolaus Schmidt portrayed a typical part of Berlin nightlife culture with his Gayhane portraits. In his second art show at Deutsches Haus, "God Dancing/Spiders Flipping" the artist tells about a world-wide known youth and street culture phenomenon with his new N.Y.B.P. (New York Breakdancers Project) series - a long term cooperation with local New York City breakdancers. The artist prints his large sized photographs by himself on Hahnemühle* fine art paper.

10th Annual National Press Club Members Photo Show Runs Until 30 September 2009

At the invitation of photojournalist Nancy Shia who I've known since the fall of 2000 as a result of my then association with DC Indymedia I attended the Opening Reception for the 10th Annual National Press Club Photography Exhibit on Friday evening, 4 September 2009.

Shia's display featured four (4) images from the night of 12 October 2008 when as an Adams Morgan Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner and in the process of documenting night activities in Adam Morgan she, too, was arrested.

Located in the lobby of the NPC Library the exhibit will be on display until Wednesday, 30 September 2009 on the 13th floor of the National Press Club Building at 529 14th Street in NW Washington DC.

Here is the press release regarding the event.

Khaya Cookies ... With A Cause

Reading the latest issue of the Philadephia Magazine while in the dentist chair last Thursday, 3 September 2009 I came across the Eat This Now: Khaya Cookies article by April White that I'd like to bring attention to the Khaya Cookies Company which was founded by Cinnaminson native Alicia Danielle Polak in 2006. Not sure, but, Khaya Cookies may be available at some Whole Foods in Washington DC but, if not, you can order them online. Or, if interested ... become a wholesaler.

2 New Trance Mixes for Labor Day Weekend

I've just uploaded two new Summer's End trance mixes for Labor Day Weekend 2009.

Reflecting on my life and in connection with the ongoing "In The Fall of the Year" docu-project, RITUAL PURIFICATION speaks to my experiences as a black man.

In addition to viewing the tracklist here is where you can download the cd art work.

The second mix, as the first installment of an ongoing 'vocal series', in addition to a few older selections, VOICES 1 features some of the favorite 'trance vocal' tracks that I've purchased over the summer of 2009 from Masterbeat and Beatport.

View the tracklist and download the cd art work from here.
